We were counting down the days to Spring Break until we could hop on a plane and escape to Florida. Trent served his mission in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area of Florida and it was about time we headed back for a visit. We went with Trent’s darling parents and we had so much fun! We explored the city, endured Miami traffic, ate wonderful food and also found plenty of time to relax. It was a great trip and I can’t wait to go back 😉
Day one consisted of the craziest scooter ride I have ever experienced. We braved the Miami roads and explored the city on our little vespas. We had a couple near death experiences but overall it wasn’t too bad. Trent was the greatest tour guide and we all went home pretty exhausted that night.
The next day we ventured out to the Everglades for an airboat tour. There are alligators all over Florida and Trent told us plenty of stories of missionaries getting a little to close to the alligators…(not of them died I promise!) The Everglades were a different kind of beautiful and it was fun to capture all of the different creatures we spotted throughout the tour. The boat would follow these shallow canals through the swamps and we went sooooo fast, it was a crazy experience.
We were so busy the first couple of days we didn’t make it to the beach until Friday! It was a little colder (for Florida) so we only played in the water for a bit but it was great! That night we went and had dinner with Trent’s Mission President and his wife. It was a blast to meet them and hear how the mission is doing!

This poor group of girls were seriously attacked by seagulls trying to get to their crackers…
Our last day was busy. We took a segway tour of Fort Lauderdale which was way more fun than we thought it was going to be. Those segways are a blast! Trent seriously got the hang of them and would zoom past all of us. We got to explore the canals that run through Fort Lauderdale and see all of the beautiful homes. It was awesome!
After the segway tour, we went snorkeling! Before we left on the boat we walked around the dock looking at all the beautiful boats. Florida is amazing! We took a twenty minute boat ride off the coast and then went diving. The water was perfect and we were literally swimming with the fish. You could practically reach out and touch them! Â Trent went under the boat which was only slightly terrifying and then we all got to jump off the top into the water. I always love making friends on these sorts of trips. We met a family from Canada and a darling couple from Colorado! It made me laugh because the girl from Canada commented on how freezing the water was when to us, it was practically perfect!
After snorkeling we walked the famous Las Olas street and ate at Rocco’s Tacos (seriously the best Mexican food I have ever eaten, we highly recommend).
That night Trent and I explored the night life of Miami, which is a world of its own, found a darling gelato place and finished off a great trip. We felt so lucky to have been able to explore this incredible place! Be back soon!
